  • 1.  On Premises Power BI Solution Planning

    Posted Apr 27, 2017 01:25 AM

I want to get the idea on how to plan for On Premises Power BI Solution with SSRS. As for the data source it has to be analysis services and no other data source support is available yet. So  SSAS Hardware planning must also be a part of this solution.

Can anyone please help me to provide hardware requirements and recommendations for all the three components (Power Bi, SSRS, SSAS) giving suggestions with some sample database/semantic layer size, number of users ( concurrent) etc.

like if my sematic layer size is 1 Terabytes then HW requirement for SSAS -----

I have 50 concurrent user  that will be using Power Bi report in SSRS --- SSRS hardware suggestions

I have seen some separate document for SSAS and SSRS, but even those document do not provide ideal Hardware requirement with some benchmark parameters and also those are not in relation to the On Premises Power Bi solution.

also what are the other things to consider in this regard.

    Hi hina,

Your own VM or server (not one in production use)
Windows Server 2012 or later (or Windows 8 or later)
    .NET Framework 4.5.2 or later
SQL Server Database Engine (2008 or later), to store the report server database
SQL Server Analysis Services (2012 SP1 CU4 or later), to store your data models

Would you please review below link

Microsoft announced Power BI Premium back in June. It will be the on-prem solution. Right now Power BI Report Server is available for you to install on production but it will only support SSAS. MS is promising to have the rest of data sources supported in the next release which will be sometime in fall 2017. Then you will be able to use other data sources for your production PBI RS. Hope this helps.
