Indianapolis, IN | Your Destination this May for Focus (and Fun!)

My name is Jennifer McGuire and I’m a Business Analyst at Strada Education Network and the Indianapolis User Group Leader.

The Power BI User Group (PUG) community inspires me because everyone is so willing to share their knowledge and expertise to help others succeed. Business Intelligence is an emerging area in many companies, so it's refreshing to have so many experienced BI users willing to share their insights. I also appreciate that PUG offers a forum for community members in all areas of BI programs — administrators, analysts, and business users —- to share ideas, lessons learned, success stories, and best practices.

As a local to the area, I believe Indianapolis is a great location for Focus because Indiana is known for Hoosier hospitality. I think attendees will find Indianapolis to be full of friendly people. A short walk away from the Marriott, where Focus is being held, are unique restaurants, art displays, museums, and the Cultural Trail.

May is an exciting month to be in Indy because of all the events leading up to and including the Indianapolis 500. Qualifications and practice for the Indy 500 are on May 20 and 21, so be sure to check out www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com if you’re interested in experiencing some racing.

I recommend taking time while you’re in Indianapolis to visit Monument Circle and see the Soldiers and Sailors Monument and see why Indy is often called the Circle City. I recommend St. Elmo Steak House, a landmark in Indianapolis known for its spicy shrimp cocktail sauce. Make sure to check out the art, architecture, shops, bars, and restaurants on Massachusetts Avenue. Dining options include Mesh on Mass, Bazbeaux Pizza, BRU Burger, Chatham Tap, MacNivens, and so much more. I also recommend checking out the White River State Park area, which includes outdoor walking paths, several museums, the NCAA Hall of Champions, and the Indianapolis Zoo.

If you have time to drive to the Broad Ripple area, be sure to try the Cake Bake Shop, which recently made Oprah’s ‘O’ list. It’s a charming restaurant with fantastic cakes and desserts. The red velvet cake contains chopped Callebaut Belgian chocolate and is my favorite!

I can’t wait to welcome you to Indianapolis this May 21-22! Learn more & register at www.ugfocus.com

Hi Jennifer !

Thanks for sharing the hospitality & inviting every member to join Focus 2018.

I think may be we should setup a short 1 day trip for the attendees who are willing to travel & experience the cultural insights & love some good food.

It would be just a  guideline plan may be with the help of some local INdy PUG member who will be willing to volunteer his / her time with the attendees.
